Selfhelp4Life WEB-SITE DEVELOPMENT (2003)

• Developed a multi-functional web-presence to deliver a computer-based self-coaching course (www.Selfhelp4life.com).
• Developed and tested marketing copy, course content and custom graphic and image files.
• Site features a free on-line personality test with automatic results shown on screen and also returned via e-mail; web-master notification of every test-taker with respondent details; automated collection of respondent data on a hosted database.
• Site also features on-line ebook purchases, password distribution and maintenance and on-line, secure payment in multiple currencies.
• Other feature included an exit pop-up distributing a free ebook that captured an online survey from customers.

TEAM LEAD / SENIOR BUSINESS & SYSTEMS ANALYST (2002 - 04)

• Developed and implemented a rewrite for the Travellers National Database System to eliminate fraudulent security problems. Documented and trained employees on the new systems and procedures.
• Worked on a high profile initiative that involved confiscating money coming across the borders that could be a result of Proceeds of Crime
• Responded to UPS lawsuit ( Arising from a hearing in April 2003 the Tribunal has requested specific documents and/or responses to specific Interrogatories that arose from the hearing) Worked on document to respond to the requested documentation.

TEAM LEAD OF BUSINESS ANALYSTS & DEVELOPERS (2001)

• Led a team of business analyst and developers in defining and developing over 30 new reports and processes required for interfaces within a very aggressive timeline.
• Working with multiple business areas, writing detailed programming specifications for SQL procedures and Crystal Reports development.
• Analyzing interfaces in existing systems to define business requirements for new interfaces.

• Gathered information from various sources to determine the scope of the project. Created a Deliverables document which outlined the major deliverables and workstreams, available resources, estimated times, deliverable dates, dependencies and associated risks.
• Met with new customers to analyze their current system, special requirements, concerns etc. Created preliminary analysis document outlining the current system, gaps, issues and concerns.
• Involved in the product mapping and data mapping exercises.
• Analyzed and documented all the processes and procedures for both systems to determine any gaps. Created and maintained a gap document outlining proposed solutions, priority level, resource responsible, issues or concerns.
• Created Business Decision documents, Requirement documents and Testing documents throughout the project.

PROJECT LEADER / SENIOR SYSTEMS ANALYST (1997 - 98)

• Headed a high profile project that involved consulting with many different groups and systems within BC Tel. Created reports, plans, analysis documents, recommended approaches, identified problems and found solutions. Coordinated meetings and activities with users , system architects, managers, programmers, analysts. Provided information about project to other groups and was often the contact person. Communicated effectively with many people on an ongoing basis.

SENIOR SYSTEMS ANALYST (1996 - 97)
Canadian Forest Products, Vancouver, BC, Canada

Worked as a Senior Systems Analyst upgrading applications within a wood products marketing system in an IDMS environment using COBOL VS / ADSO. Used TSO/SPF and JCL.
• Provided leadership in the planning and development of a Year 2000 conversion project resulting in the successful and timely completion of the project. Recommended approach that was subsequently used. Identified solutions to many roadblocks that arose during the project i.e. approach used to convert the system ensured any production emergencies could be handled and daily processing of the system would not be interrupted; identified version of COBOL was not century compliant, suggested a module to convert date; ensured a module used by over 100 transactions to submit reports was functional for all transactions. Coordinated meetings and activities with individuals from DBA group, security group along with systems programmers; interacting with them on a regular basis. Coding, testing and debugging of over 800 programs and dialogs.
• Created a Customer Analysis report that enabled the client to determine their best customers by sales. This report became quite extensive and had a substantial cost benefit to the client.
• Designed and implemented an edit, update transaction and report to handle the new softwood lumber quotas. Involved capturing the data as it was sent from the EDI system, cleaning up erroneous data, updating new database area.
• Communicated effectively on a regular basis with several clients and other team members to produce the applications within the time period specified.
• Worked independently on most projects with very little intervention by team leader due to nature of the project and the limited time available.
• Produced successful applications that were thoroughly tested and accepted by the team and the client.

TEAM LEADER / SENIOR SYSTEMS ANALYST (1989 - 96)
Customs and Excise, Ottawa, ON, Canada

Worked as an Interim Team Leader/Senior Systems Analyst maintaining and enhancing the Human Resources and Excise Commercial System in an IDMS environment using COBOL VS / ADSO. Used TSO/SPF and JCL.

• Team Lead – Responsible for project management duties which included supervising 4 SSAs, 1 PA and 2 jr. programmers, communicated effectively with programmers, analysts, business analysts, clients, DBAs, production facilities personnel on a regular basis. Collected requirements, organized and distributed assignments. Planned and coordinated major releases, reviewed impact analysis documents, met with several technical and user groups to establish accurate and timely deliverables. Tracked and resolved problems. Performed many other management functions such as project progress reports, budgeting and cost analysis functions.
• Designed and re-engineered a new test database from a complex production database enabling programmers, business analysts and clients to test applications which previously was unusable. Involved removing corrupted data, increasing space in database areas to run sufficient tests, providing more up-to-date data, synchronizing programs and dialogs in 7 CVs to ensure all versions were correct.
• Created analysis documents from user requirements as well as changes brought about from legislation.
• Designed and developed applications using the "Total Quality Management" methodology, resulting in better client communication and satisfaction. Involved extensive communication with the client, supporting all tasks with technical and user end documentation, meetings and presentations with the client.
• Took initiative to automate many manual and time consuming procedures, thereby saving time and eliminating tedious procedures.
• Worked on a major integration procedure using mainframe and client-server systems; worked extensively with the file transfer facility XCOM and VSAM files.
• Trained new staff to use the application, IDMS, COBOL and many other features specific to Customs and Excise.
• Initially started as a junior programmer , progressed to Interim Team Leader/ SSA consistently using my programming and technical skills

• Responsible for the functional design for a new authorization code system which would help decrease fraudulent calls made within the government telecommunications network.

PROGRAMMER ANALYST (1986 - 87)
Newfoundland Telephone, St. John's, NL, Canada

• Successful in the Programmer Trainee competition which involved over 100 applicants.
• Designed and developed many programs on a major in-house accounting project. Involved in walkthrus and meetings with business analysts, project leaders and other programmers.

INSTRUCTOR (1991)
Algonquin College, Ottawa, ON, Canada

Taught 20 students for a semester a continuing education course in COBOL VS. Students varied in ability, requiring different teaching techniques.
• Designed class lectures, exercises, assignments and exams from a variety of sources, which presented students with different information/interpretations and ideas for COBOL programming.
• Supervised and assisted students during computer labs in which a one on one approach was used to help with specific problems or questions relating to assignments.
• Motivated and encouraged people who were hesitant to learn about programming and computers, due to lack of experience, language barriers etc.
• Created a relaxed atmosphere and encouraged class participation.
